At this time, people enrolling in the practice must meet the following criteria:

• Virginia resident
• Ability to use Zoom 
• Comfort in group medical setting (patient or parent/guardian)

Expect to finally feel heard and to understand your body.

After enrolling as a member, you'll be able to schedule your first appointment. 

Prior to your first appointment, you will gain access to the video lessons and group support.

You'll be able to go at your own pace in our membership and progress as quickly or as slowly as you need.

During our time together, we will address:

• Nutrition
• Lifestyle
• Neuroendocrine system
• Gastrointestinal system
• Detox system
• Mitochondria/energy system

We offer ongoing memberships with a 6 month upfront commitment but realize that some people may require more flexibility. 

Patients may progress as quickly or as slowly as they need. 

If desired, you may cancel with a 30-day notice. Any charges pending within those 30 days will be withdrawn and you will have access to patient services until the end of the 30-day billing cycle. 

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer single one-off sessions. Root cause medicine takes time and we've found that frequent follow-ups make all the difference with regards to patient outcomes.

We do offer a Basic Access membership for those desiring more "as needed" appointments. It's $75/month with a 12 month upfront commitment then month-to-month. You'll still be required to pay the $300 case review fee and meet with Rachel for one 60-minute appointment to establish care.

Due to the nature of the group visits, we only record the "webinar" teaching portion. The Q&A portion is not recorded. Attendance is encouraged but not necessary.

You will be able to submit questions ahead of time if you are unable to attend and they will be answered in the group chat.

Unfortunately, no, we do not accept insurance. We do accept HSA/FSA cards.

Insurance companies do not recognize the depth and therefore time with which we evaluate patients as medically necessary. Chronic, complex medical issues take years and perhaps decades to develop and they require thoughtful consideration. Eliminating the “middle man” also allows us to be transparent in our pricing so you can see the value of the services we provide.

After your visit, you can request a superbill that details the charges and you can use that to submit a claim to your insurance for possible reimbursement. This is not a guarantee that services will be reimbursed or covered. It is up to you to determine if your insurance carrier covers the services for functional medicine. We are unable to assist you with claim resolutions.

Appointment fees are transparent and as follows:

Functional medicine

• Initial 60-minute functional medicine appointment - included in Basic Access membership
• 30-minute follow up appointment - $150
• 60-minute follow up appointment - $250

Functional nutrition

• Initial 60-minute functional nutrition appointment - $200
• 30-minute follow up appointment - $100
• 60-minute follow up appointment - $150

Upon enrolling, you'll have the payments auto-debited each month. The one-time case review fee of $300 will be invoiced to you separately.

Our membership is similar to a gym membership. These monthly payments will continue during the duration of your membership. A 30 day written notice (either email or portal message) is required for cancellation of membership.

We understand that sometimes "life happens." Due to the nature of much of the work of functional medicine being done upfront, we are unable to process refund requests for membership fees.

You are able to cancel with a 30-day notice. Any pending charges in the next 30 days will be withdrawn and you will have access to patient services until the end of the 30-day billing cycle.

Any pending payments for the upcoming 30 days will be processed and your access to all membership resources will end after that billing cycle.

We work with Rupa Health and Evexia, “lab concierge” services who you will work with directly. You will pay them for labs offered by our practice. They offer payment plans and accept HSA and FSA cards. We do not bill labs to insurance. 

Rupa Health: After ordering labs from Rupa Health, the tubes are delivered to your doorstep, and Rupa Health will guide you on how to collect the required specimens.

Evexia: Bloodwork from Evexia can be drawn at your local Labcorp office. 

We will make every effort to be transparent in the lab test pricing and work with you to determine which labs you feel comfortable purchasing. 

On average, a patient will spend $350-800 on initial functional medicine lab testing. 

You are under no obligation to purchase functional labs, but we prefer a "test, don't guess" approach to get to the root cause quickly. 

If your labs are within the past 6 months, then Rachel will use those to develop your plan of care. Any labs beyond 6 months will be considered but repeat lab testing may be recommended. Rachel does not make any profit from these labs and the cost is 100% transparent to you, the patient.

If your labs reveal further investigation and treatment may be necessary beyond the scope of functional medicine, then you will be referred back to your primary care provider.You will be able to purchase appointments as needed. 

Yes, all visits are virtual. Your virtual visits will be completed through a secure telemedicine platform, Practice Better. You must have access to a phone, tablet, or computer for each virtual visit.

You are able to self-schedule your appointments through Practice Better. It's easy!

Rachel is available for appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10 AM - 4 PM EST. Yana, our nutritionist, is available during select hours Monday-Friday.

We understand that life happens! There is a 24-hour cancellation policy for all appointments. 

If you can’t make your scheduled appointment time, please let us know at least 24 hours in advance via the Patient Portal. 

The best way to contact us is via the Patient Portal. However, if a question or request is deemed to be too complicated or involved for response via the Patient Portal, then you may be required to schedule a follow-up telehealth visit to better address the question or request. This may count toward your monthly membership visit. If additional visits are required, they will be billed at a rate of $150/30-minute visit. 

Our office hours are by appointment only. Keep in mind, we will be regularly checking the Patient Portal Monday-Friday. If you have an emergency, please call your PCP or 911 or go to the nearest hospital.

Please note that to work with Root and Ritual Functional Medicine, you MUST maintain your own, separate primary care provider. 

We will not replace your primary care provider, as your PCP will still be performing your necessary annual preventative wellness exams, screening tests, and managing your medications. As consultants, we do not provide urgent/same day care that might require immediate assistance or hospitalization. We will be happy, if you desire, to communicate our findings and recommendations to your PCP to make sure they are “in the loop” with your plan of care.
